Sassi Sculpture Stones by Piero Gilardi for Gufram
Designed in 1968 by Italian artist and activist Piero Gilardi for the radical design brand Gufram, Sassi (meaning "Stones" or "Rocks" in Italian) is an iconic collection of domestic seating and sculptural art pieces. The collection famously pioneered Gufram's signature "true-fake" concept, which visually mimics nature while completely subverting its tactile and physical properties.
Material Composition: The stones are sculpted from unsupported polyurethane foam. They are coated in Guflac®, an exclusive, patented elastic paint that allows the foam to retain its flexibility and soft texture while making it waterproof, durable, and weather-resistant.
The Three-Piece Set: They are traditionally delivered as a set of three rocks. The largest rock, known as Sedilsasso, functions as an unconventional armchair or pouf. The two smaller pieces function as decorative, contemplative ornamental elements.
